Traffic chaos as third water pipe bursts in Middlesbrough in two days

A third water pipe burst in Middlesbrough in two days – which leads to more traffic chaos.

A major problem on Ladgate Lane on Friday saw much of the city without water, and that evening another eruption followed on Mandale Road in Acklam.

Much of the area had serious traffic problems on Friday after the first breakout after the road was closed.

Northumbrian Water has now confirmed that a third problem was reported on Ormesby Road near Pallister Park on Saturday morning.

Online road maps show that traffic is blocked in the area.

According to Northumbrian Water, the Acklam outbreak occurred because of the pressure on the network caused by the previous incident.

A Northumbrian Water spokesman said: “We were first made aware of an eruption in one of our 6-inch water pipes on Mandale Road yesterday, Friday, April 30th at 9:00 pm.

“The burst occurred due to pressure changes on the network while a major repair was being made in the Ladgate Lane area.”

“Our crews are also working hard to fix an eruption on Ormesby Road that was reported earlier this morning.”
