U.S. Supreme Court backs Fillmore County Amish in septic tank fight

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The US Supreme Court has sided with an Amish group in Minnesota fighting efforts to force them to install sewage treatment plants.

In that case, families face the traditionalist Swartzentruber Amish in southeast Minnesota against Fillmore County. The Minnesota courts have sided with the county. But the Supreme Court sent the case back to the Minnesota Court of Appeals on Friday with instructions to take another look at another religious freedom case in light of its ruling last month.

While the order was a strong indicator of what the judges felt should happen, the next step is with the Minnesota court.
