Extensive testing continued through this week resulting in positive results for the Village owned transformer and Well #6 motor. Although the well’s soft start is suspected to be the problem, there are no definitive conclusions as of yet.  A representative from the manufacturer of the soft start is not available until the first week of September to troubleshoot the starter.  Attaching the well to a mobile generator and bypassing the soft start has shown promise as a temporary measure to run the well while we wait for further troubleshooting of the starter.  Testing of this temporary measure to run the well is currently underway.

All outside watering restrictions will remain in place until further notice.  An update will be provided when more information is made available.

AUGUST 11, 2021 | RESIDENT NOTICE

On Monday, August 9, a meeting took place to diagnose and troubleshoot the issues with Well #6. There are several components to the issue, which includes the motor, soft starting unit, ComEd transformer and Village transformer. Separate testing of each component will be done on Thursday, August 12, and we are hoping to come to a solution for these issues by the end of the week.

An estimated completion date is not available at this time. An update will be provided after we have more information from Thursday’s testing. In the meantime, the outside water usage ban is still in effect. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated during this extremely unfortunate situation.

90% of the well has been installed.

Installation will be completed next week, followed by electrical connections, chlorination, and EPA testing.

It is extremely important residents follow the odd/even restrictions when the well is put back into service. This means that addresses with odd numbers water on odd numbered days of the month, and addresses with even numbers water on even numbered days of the month.

JULY 9, 2021 | RESIDENT NOTICE

JULY 9, 2021 | RESIDENT NOTICE

As our outside water usage ban continues, we thank you for your cooperation during this unfortunate situation. Most residents are adhering to the ban, and have found ways to conserve water indoors to be used outdoors, and that helps this situation tremendously.

This ban provides the means for our remaining wells to meet the demands of inside daily usage.

We must maintain this usage level, not only for our daily water needs to be met, but also for any unforeseen situations that may occur such as a structure fire.

As we continue to receive complaints, we ask that all residents stop using their outside lawn irrigation systems and stop spraying their lawns until Well #6 is back online.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as the repair work to Well #6 continues. We will provide updates on the status of Well #6 as there is new information to provide.

Status of Well #6

Status of Well #6

  • Bowl assembly is being reassembled.
  • Motor is at Byron Jackson for disassembly/inspection/repair.
  • New pipe and couplers have been ordered and expected by the end of this week.
  • Pipe threading continues.
  • Suction adapter found to have wear holes and a crack.

The capacity of our four remaining wells will accommodate residents daily inside usage during the repair time of Well #6. Residents use an extremely large amount of water during the summer on lawn and landscaping care, and our regular odd/even schedule was created to meet the needs of outside water usage. Since the estimated repair time of Well #6 is fluctuating, residents need to continue to adhere to the outside water usage ban so that the other wells can meet the needs of inside water usage during this time.

We are receiving a number of complaints from residents that people are still using their outside lawn irrigation systems and spraying their lawns. We have been fortunate that the past weeks have brought much rain, and most types of grass can survive extended periods of drought. We ask that residents shut off their outside lawn sprinkler systems and discontinue the use of spraying lawns until Well #6 is back online.

Conserving water is an important part of a successful water ban situation, and is not uncommon to be implemented during a drought or water shortage. We are in a situation where we are asking for cooperation from all of our residents to find ways to conserve water for outside usage.

Discussions regarding additional well capacity have occurred over the past several years to accommodate the growth in our village. The Village has a new well and water tower budgeted as part of our 5-year capital budget plan. The Village Board over the next several months will be evaluating options for this improvement, and will update the community on its progress.

We know that this is an inconvenience for everyone, and we continue to work with the contracted companies to expedite the repairs to Well #6.

We will provide updates on the status of Well #6 as there is new information to provide.

Make Up Your Own Water Conservation Challenge! There are many ways to conserve water indoors that can be used outdoors. You will be amazed how much water accumulates when you start conserving:

  • Use the water collected from your dehumidifiers (tip from resident – thanks!).
  • Save leftover ice. Instead of dumping it in the sink, dump it in a container and let it melt to use to hydrate plants.
  • When refilling a pet’s water bowl, dump the unused water and the water you rinse out the bowl with in a container.
  • Place a 5-gallon bucket under the faucet of a bathtub or shower and capture excess water as it warms.
  • Place bowls in kitchen sinks when waiting for the water to get hot or when rinsing items.
  • Use the water from left over water bottles to water outdoor plants.
  • When it does finally rain, put buckets outside or under your rain gutter runoff points to capture water that would otherwise run into the gutter.
  • Cover your pool. Use a regular pool cover to block evaporation which can reduce the evaporation of water by 95%, according to the National Pool Industry Research Center (NPIRC).

We do know this is an inconvenience for all and your understanding is greatly appreciated during this time. Updates will continue to be sent via Stay Informed and posted on our website “News” section of the front page at: www.lemont.il.us.
