World Plumbing Day 2020 | Mirage News

According to Unicef, 900 million people worldwide currently have no access to clean water. That’s one in eight people at risk of disease every time they drink water.

Most of us in Australia turn the tap on without a second thought, we wash daily, flush our toilets, do our laundry, heat our houses … and the list goes on.

March 11, 2020 was World Plumbing Day, celebrating the impact plumbers and plumbers have on the way we live. AATIS wants to recognize the incredible work all plumbers do in maintaining our way of life.

This year, AATIS was lucky enough to be invited to the Plumbing Industry Climate Protection Center (PICAC) to attend their celebration.

PICAC is an industry leading organization founded in 2009 with the primary purpose of providing courses in Green Plumbing to address the sustainable plumbing skills shortage in the industry.

Nowadays, PICAC also offers preparatory courses and apprenticeship courses for Certificates III (plumbing and sprinkler fittings) through to a range of courses for Certificates IV and post-trade, as well as safety and occupational safety courses for the construction industry.

On World Plumbing Day at PICAC, an apprentice competition was held, in which the winners had the opportunity to compete in the USA. A lunch was also hosted by local apprentice chefs from the local Australian National Institute of Business & Technology, attended by all students, teachers and staff.

The competition ran all day and provided school tours to see the eight plumber apprentices and five sprinkler apprentices completing their delegated project. The trainees all put a tremendous amount of work into completing the projects and the winners were announced at the end of the day.

Installation:

1. Danny Hoekstra – Laser Plumbing Croydon / Swinburne University

2. Nathan Tabb – National Plumbing / Victoria University

2. Stuart George – Complete Fire Service Training
